wow. With these two options, you seem the kind who might become quite a valuable teacher. If you're able to write mystery novels... history can be made very interesting to listen to. Especially mythologies :D Unfortunately, school programs tend to get in the way of such possibilities. :violent:

I can't decide if I want to be a professor or a writer. If I become a professor, I want to teach history, or maybe mythology. If I do decide to become a writer, I think I'll write mystery novels.

You could do both you know, become a professor, and write novels on your spare time.

Very true. BTW, what grade level do you teach?

Right now I'm a Grad student and I'm teaching several college biology labs. Hopefully by this fall I'll be a high school biology teacher.

Here we have 2 different kind of Highschool teachers...

1) Teaching 1th to 3th year only.
2) Teaching 1th to 6th year.

Is there a similar system in the States?

Well it depends on the school system as States have the right to change things if they wish to see if they can get better results - which is always based on test scores which to me don't actually tell anyone anything other than the kids are good at taking tests.

However in public schools here in the US it usually works like this:

Kindergarden, Grades 1 through 5 or 6 is Elementary school where you get a new teacher for each grade each school year.

Middle school - if there is a middle school system, sometimes Grades 6,7, and 8 are incorperated into a high school system as "Junior High" - but we're moving away from that. Usually this is where it gets fuzzy as team teaching comes into play, where one grade is rotated between 3 to 4 teachers who each take a couple of subjects. That grade is broken down into groups and usually this is where they experiance "periods" of a certain subject as they study it for a certain portion of the day and switch out with another teacher in another subject. Again, how many periods are in a day varies from school system to school system. Sometimes it can be as low as 4 periods in a day to as high as 9...

High School - Now this is a tad more mixed up as there are still "Grades" as you have 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th left in high school, but you are usually refured to as being either a Freshman, Sophmore, Junior and/or Senior instead. The day is split up again into "periods" but Teachers teach all grades and usually stick to one subject, as mine would be Biology. With a few exceptions (English usually has students broken down by grade level), my science classes will probably have all four grade levels in one subject. It is usually up to the student what classes can be taken in what year, but they have to fill the requirements of their State or they do not graduate on time when they are Seniors.

From there, it's to College, but the Students have to pay for that and not all get to go here in the US. But that's another ball of wax.

Hope that helps a bit, if you want me to explain more, let me know.
